Bureau of Labor Statistics show that the average age of the American farmer is 55 years old.  Couple this with a growing urban population that is projected to eclipse 7 Billion by 2050, it is imperative that we prepare a new generation of urban farmers.  In response, Farm-X partnered with Urban Farmacy and the Sustainable Urban Design Academy's "Guns-2-Gardens" Program to launch its first Future Farmers training program in February at Castlemont High School in East Oakland, CA.  10th, 11th & 12th grade students participating in the Sustainable Urban Design Academy (SUDA) at Castlemont HS are currently being led through a design, build, operation & business planning workshop over the course of the semester to convert an on-campus gun range into an indoor hydroponic lettuce farm.
